A few weeks ago, Laura, Sophie, and I visited our local zoo to see their new capybaras. These heavily-memed rodents tend to become celebrities at any zoo lucky enough to host some, so this was one time we were glad to be on the unfashionable side of Massachusetts. Nonetheless, the Forest Park Zoo’s special “Capybara Encounter” program books up fast, so if you’re planning to come out to Springfield for that, get your tickets early.
Here are a few photos from our own meeting.

The zoo staff hands everyone some lettuce, which the capybaras love. They’re quite accustomed to this routine.

This was a lovely experience, and of course we also walked around the adorable little zoo afterward. If you don’t feel like shelling out the money for the full encounter, the capybaras are nonetheless easy to see; their enclosure is a comfortable size for them, but they’re not shy about greeting passerby.
